Software solutions for your restaurant

Society as a whole continues to become more reliant on technology and that can also be said for the restaurant industry. Whether you are just starting your restaurant business or you are several years in, it is never too late to look at the benefits of automation and what software solutions may work best for you. We are going cover a few different areas that help you to automate your business and processes.

The most obvious first move is a point-of-sales (“POS”) system. A POS will handle things from inputting and managing orders as well as the payment for these orders. POS systems can create a lot of efficiencies in your business. As opposed to the old guest check method, a POS system will provide consistency for all staff (front and back of house together) as well as giving you the ability to also track useful information. In addition to the standard POS system, there are a number of add on features that can help automate your business. You can have integrated accounting, workforce management or even inventory management solutions. In some instances, these could link into your POS system or be separate solutions.

Another area of efficiency could be with offering kiosks for placing orders. In some concepts, it could be more efficient for guests to place orders themselves or to request refills via a kiosk. You will have to weigh the pros and cons of this option. While in some situations you may gain some efficiencies, this will also result in losing direct touches with your customers. If personal interactions are a key part of your business model, this may not be the best option for you.

Another key part of this decision may also be the cost of the solutions. While you will need to consider the cost of these solutions alongside their benefits, it is also important to remember that there are numerous software solutions of varying complexities on the market. If you are just starting out in one location, you may not need the same solution as a concept that already has 30 locations. Most of these solution providers can work with you on finding what will work best for your business.
