New cyber attack masquerading as IRS refund information

Now that your tax returns are completed, there is a new way for the bad guys to get after you. There is a new email-based ransomware attack, which involves receiving an email that looks like the item below.

The bad part is that the attachment looks like a Word file attachment. If you open this file, all of your files will get hijacked and encrypted. If that happens, you only get your files back after paying a $500 ransom.

Remember – the IRS will never email you – ever. If there is a question about your refund, they will send a notice.

Please delete any emails that indicate they are from irs.gov – these are not real and are spam or phishing attacks.
